Preparing for Kindergarten
As a private school, educational content is the core of our program. It is important to us that each August, our children leave us confident and well prepared for kindergarten. And that each enjoyed his/her time here and is very proud to be entering kindergarten reading and writing!
In addition to outdoor & indoor play, your child will enjoy opportunities to choose among many fun educational activities while expanding his/her knowledge and interests. Favorites include many types of musical instruments, printing their name and short sentences, acting out favorite story characters, telling time, the basics of playing the piano, violin or the guitar, computer time with friends, presenting their own puppet shows, selecting favorite songs for circle time, learning various ballet poses, the hokey pokey, pride in reading stories to each other, phonics and games.

Many enjoy understanding the concept of coins and dollar bills by playing restaurant or toy shop, counting the number of dinosaurs lined up on the classroom floor, then knowing how many are left when a few are removed, as part of introduction to addition and subtraction. Creative arts, recognizing on their classroom clock what time they go outside to play and have snacks, counting in Spanish and learning Spanish phrases, health, science and nature study. A favorite science activity is to wear one of our child size lab coats and a set of purple goggles to “see what happens” during simple experiments such as mixing baking soda and water or using the giant toothbrush on the teeth of our classroom dinosaur head replica, then checking for cavities! During all of our activities, the children are learning as they play.

Realizing most children begin to outgrow nap around age four, our fours and fives do not have a scheduled nap time unless your child chooses to nap or if you prefer your child has a nap. Relaxing activities are set aside, such as story time and coloring, for non-nappers.
